Next up in our series of smart plug reviews, we’re taking a look at the TP-Link Wifi Smart Plug. This smart plug beats the Belkin Wemo Mini out for price at only $25. It’s simple and easy to use design will look great in your home. You can download the native app, called Kasa, to run all of the functionality, or you can use voice commands through Amazon Alexa. The smart plug works through connection to your wifi, but if your wifi disconnects for some reason, there is an on/off switch on the plug itself as well.
A bit more about the Kasa app – when you open up the app you’ll see all of your smart plugs listed. You can click on each to turn it on or off. You can also open each one of the plugs individually on the app to see some stats such as total run time since you last turned off the plug. You’ll see features including a timer for on/off functioning, an away feature that includes on/off and days of the week – great for security when you’re out of town. You can set your appliances to a schedule if you know you want your lights, A/C, etc on at certain times on certain days of the week. The app also allows you to change your icons and use photos instead – some people like to take pictures of the rooms the plugs are used in or the appliances they’re going to.
An insider tip – though the price of this plug is reasonable if you need several of them for different appliances, you can also plug a power strip into it, thereby making anything connected to the power strip a smart appliance. This could be a great way to save some money while trying out home automation. We highly recommend the TP-Link Wifi Smart Plug for your smart home!
